Editor, the Advocate:
I would like to submit a letter regarding my work experience as an Assistant District Attorney in Victoria County with the elected DA, Steve Tyler. He is more than just a man who shares the name of a famous rock star. Mr. Tyler gave me a great opportunity to make a difference in Victoria as an assistant DA.
When I interviewed with Mr. Tyler back in 2014, he told me about his new policy to require that certain DWI cases go to trial. Initially, I thought it would be a great opportunity to get more trial experience. I quickly learned that Mr. Tyler took his job as DA very seriously. This was more than an opportunity to polish my trial skills.
I gained valuable intake and trial experience and gained valuable work experience and trial skills in a well-regarded prosecutor's office working for Mr. Tyler. Mr. Tyler trusted my judgment, sought my opinion and valued my contribution. I was able to make my own decisions related to trials and hearings. Growing up in Dallas meant I was a big city girl in a small town working in Victoria. Leaving was a very difficult decision to make given my high regard for Mr. Tyler.
I take pride in saying I worked for Mr. Tyler. He helped me obtain my current job as assistant district attorney in a very large city. I would recommend the Victoria County Criminal District Attorney's Office with Mr. Tyler as DA to other attorneys wishing to learn this trade and gain experience.
